The sounds of Oakenwood

Unique, original music

Music is an important part of life. Frierich Neitzsche said "Without music, life would be a mistake." We couldn't agree more. The soundtrack to our lives would be boring if not for music. We are glad -- happy even -- to be able to share our tunes with you. Click on a title below to launch the MP3. Lyrics (were applicable) can be found on the Read page.

Polished, our first album, is a collection of deeply personal songs. Mother Earth ia about environmental disaster; Phil rewrote this from the original that was about nuclear madness. Late Night Wakefulness was written by Pete to the guitar of Phil; it was written in a matter of minutes. Also, Pete's vocal track was recorded in one take. Catch in the Graveyard is truly a three-way collaboration. Written after a brutal game of Laser Tag played in a graveyard at night, Pete wrote the first verse, Scott, the second and Phil finished with the third verse. Dirge #3 has two verses taken directly from Phil's life. Stormy Afternoon was written by Scott to Phil's guitar in 1986 while Scott was visiting from Florida. Stare was written by Phil many, many years ago after a family member had a health scare. Hearbeat is a song of mourning written by Phil to honor his "Dotter". Murder's first verse was written by Phil while under a great deal of stress. The second verse was written by Pete & Scott during the recording session. Donnie is an old friend that Phil & Scott wrote this song about after paying her a visit. John Edgar was a surprise Pete pulled on Phil. Phil wrote the piece years ago from a acid flashback. Pete took it and recorded this wonderful piece.

Unfinished, guitarwork is just that, a collection of tunes that have not yet been finished. Sunsuite's music was written by  Phil using an open tuning on his guitar. Sunshine was written in a park on an overcast day. Each time we came to the chorus, the sun would peak out from behind the clouds. Bearded Son is taken from an idea Phil has for a novel. Flower Child is the first song that Phil ever wrote. One God describes Phil religous philosophy. Molly was written thinking about two of Phil's past girlfriends named Molly. Surreal World is one of Phil's favorites. Good vocals and an awesome guitar solo! Tumble-Leap-Fall is a Scott/Phil project -- needs a lot more work. Wish You Were Here is what Phil automatically plays when the 12-string is in tune.

Digital compositions is really a Phil solo album. These are all songs that Phil has composed and recorded with the exception of Drowsy Maggie and Amazing Grace. Phil presents his take on those classic tunes here.
