Mother Earth

Since the days of our birth we've lived on you Mother Earth
You show your terrible sadness of man's selfish madness
Mother Earth who'll protect you from the damage man shall do
Mother Earth you are so screwed

The sun shines its warm light rays on man's destructive ways
As he aptly destroys what he considers his "toy"
The stars are shining so bright for you they reflect the light
It will be their last tribute; man continues to pollute

Radiation, PCB's, and other toxic nasties
Tainted water makes quite a slaughter
Poisoned air is a very deadly affair
Oh Mother Earth, dead soil has no worth
There is no winner, but you have lost
Man would've called it ecological holocaust

Since the days of our birth we've lived on you Mother Earth
You show your terrible sadness of man's insane madness
Mother Earth, a childless parent; no one's left, now you're barren

Phil Oslund - October 21, 2000

This "green" piece was rewritten from what was originally a poem about the threat of nuclear war. The first Mother Earth was written in 1983 during the height of the Reagan years.
